Search for elements
Want to use an image of an apple in your background? Simply type “apple” into the search field. Then, filter by type: All, Photos, Illustrations.
What if the apple you were looking for had to be red? Or it had to be an icon? Or it had to have a transparent background? With Canva’s advanced search options you can narrow down your search results to find exactly what you are looking for:
01. Combining keywords (+)
02. Excluding keywords (NOT)
03. Multiple options (OR)
04. No background (+cutout:true)
05. Icon only (+icon)
Search for free elements
01. Browse our free elements folders
Click on the Elements tab. In this portion of the search pane, you’ll see several buttons you can click on to open different element libraries, including grids, shapes, icons, and more.
Click on any of these library buttons and they will expand to show you all of the elements they contain. The free elements will include a small box that says Free on the bottom right.
02. Search for free textholders
To check out our library of textholders, click the text tab and scroll through the many possibilities. Once again, all of the free elements will be clearly marked with a free box in the corner.
03. For free images, look for the free tag
When you use the search tab to look for a specific element to use in your pages, the results will be sorted by relevance: the elements that most closely match your search will be on top, with the less relevant results below. However, you can still easily see which elements are free to use by checking for the free box in the corner.
Where to find contributor and keyword
information about a premium element
Hover over any element in the search pane to reveal its information button, which looks like a small letter "i" inside a circle. Click on the information button to reveal the contributor's name, as well as keywords associated with the element.
If you find an element you like and want to see more from that particular contributor, you can click on the contributor's name in the information pane to view their entire portfolio.
Locate premium elements on your pages
It's always good to know where you're at. To know how many premium images have been used by your team (and on which pages), look for the little piggies that appear on the page thumbnails displayed in the yearbook builder. The little piggy bank tells you how many premium image you've used on each page.
In the example below, you can see that we have a little piggies on all of our pages. All of them comes up to a total of 40 credits used in the yearbook.
